Upton's Gardens of Hope is a volunteer-run community garden in Baltimore's Upton neighborhood. Founded in 1989, it offers residents a nurturing space for healthy activities. Located on Shields Place at the corner of Dolphin Street and West Lafayette, the garden is owned by the Mayor and City Council. Formerly residential properties, the area had deteriorated into an unhealthy space. Under the leadership of Ms. Gloria Luster, Gardens of Hope transformed the vacant land into a program promoting healthy eating. The garden includes an open community space, parking area, and individually managed plots. Community activities and partnerships have made it a cherished space in the neighborhood.
